From Regional Doctor to Community Builder
How Dr. Samer Al Mur turned a vision for better health and connection into one of the Wheatbelt’s most anticipated fitness hubs.
When Samer arrived in Australia in 2008, he brought two ambitions with him: to practice medicine, and to build something of lasting value. His career took him from Jordan to Dubai and finally to Western Australia, where in 2015 he began working in Northam. It didn’t take long for him to recognise the town’s untapped potential and its need for a place that supported both physical and social wellbeing.
Identifying the Opportunity
Northam was growing, diverse, and full of energy, but locals often spoke about the lack of a modern, accessible gym. Samer saw an opportunity to create something that would benefit the entire region.
After visiting several fitness brands, Jetts stood out. The culture of accessibility, flexibility, and genuine community connection aligned perfectly with his vision. Confident in the brand and determined to create something special, Samer bought land and decided to develop a purpose-built club himself.
Building Regional Comes With Challenges
Constructing a large-scale facility in a regional town was no small task. Limited resources, logistical challenges and delays added pressure to an already demanding schedule. Samer balanced medical shifts, development management, and family life, often working late into the night.
But every challenge strengthened his commitment. He wasn’t just building a gym, he was building a community asset.
Opening Day Success
When Jetts Northam opened its doors, the response exceeded all expectations. Locals had been waiting for something modern, welcoming and 24/7 accessible. Membership numbers were strong from day one, and the club quickly became a health hub for the Wheatbelt.
A Community That Defines the Club
Today, Jetts Northam is home to members from all walks of life: teenagers, seniors, shift workers, farmers, and lifelong Northam families. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and supportive and is something members consistently comment on.
One standout story includes a gentleman in his 60s who regained strength, mobility and confidence through regular training. He described joining Jetts as the best health decision he’d made in years.
Why Jetts Works in Regional
Jetts model resonates strongly with regional communities:
24/7 access
No lock-in contracts
High-quality equipment
A genuinely welcoming environment
A fitness hub the local community can be apart of for physical wellbeing but also social connection
It’s fitness designed around real people and Northam has embraced it.
Proud Moments & Looking Ahead
For Samer, nothing compares to the moment he stood alone in the completed club before opening day, seeing years of work turn into something the community could be proud of.
Looking ahead, he aims to continue growing the membership base, expand services, and set a benchmark for what regional clubs can achieve. He’s excited about the future direction of the Jetts brand and proud to be part of its evolution.
Samer’s Advice for Future Owners
“Do it with passion. Don’t think of it as just a business - think of the impact you will create. Jetts gives you the framework, but your heart shapes the outcome.”
Jetts Northam isn’t just a gym, it’s a commitment to community, growth and opportunity.
